Britney Spears says she was “used,” but Kevin Federline says she needed assistance

Spears talks about her conservatorship and public hardships, while Federline shares his viewpoint and maintains that she required assistance and support.

Britney Spears has talked candidly about the events that shaped her life while being watched by the public, such as the notorious night in 2007 when she shaved her head in a salon in Southern California. In the midst of a contentious custody dispute with her separated husband, Kevin Federline, Spears said that she felt encircled and humiliated by paparazzi, which is why she acted out.

Her famous long hair tumbled in chunks to the ground as paparazzi outside captured the startling scene and then followed her to get inked. The rash conduct was intended as a public response to a society that held her to unachievable expectations, according to Spears.

Though opinions have changed, the events are still widely discussed decades later. The Woman in Me, Spears’ 2023 memoir, gave her version of events.

In response, Federline wrote a book titled You Thought You Knew, which provides details of their tumultuous relationship, the conservatorship dispute, and his personal experience as a father guiding her through her difficulties.

He explains that Spears was unable to handle her affairs and that she “needed help,” whether it be therapy or rehabilitation. Although he acknowledges that a part of him “doesn’t want to know,” he says he avoided delving too deeply into the conservatorship.

Spears attributed her defiance of her court-ordered guardianship, which granted her father authority over her personal life, career, and finances from 2008 to 2021, to the Free Britney movement. Federline contends, however, that the movement “got it wrong” and that additional funding need to go toward a “Save Britney movement.”

Both books also touch on Spears’ previous relationships, particularly her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Federline asserts that Spears never truly moved on, while Spears describes the emotional and public humiliations she endured during that period.

After decades of public scrutiny, gossip, and media narratives, Federline claims his memoir is a chance to finally share his own tale. “There was no calm in silence. He writes, “It left me choking on the words I never said,” claiming that he has always tried to support his family and kids while dealing with the consequences of a well-known relationship.
