Ronaldo hints that he might be retiring and says that this could be his last year
Cristiano Ronaldo expresses that the upcoming year may be his last year in football as the Portugal captain aims to leave a significant legacy.
Cristiano Ronaldo has sparked speculation regarding his retirement by stating that the upcoming year will likely be the final chapter of his playing career.
The 41-year-old captain of Portugal stands out as one of football’s most celebrated players, having secured major trophies with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and his current club, Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo made his senior debut for Sporting in 2002 and has had a career that has lasted over two decades.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has netted 976 goals for both club and country and is now approaching the remarkable 1,000-goal milestone.
However, Ronaldo could not add a World Cup title to his list of honors after Portugal fell short at this year’s tournament.
“This is likely my final year of football, and I aim to leave behind an extraordinary legacy,” Ronaldo shared with lifestyle magazine Vogue in an interview released on Sunday.
The forward recognized that retirement would necessitate discovering new activities to fill his time after football.
I have so many activities to occupy my time that it’s difficult to single out just one thing to share. “Because football could leave a significant void, it’s important to occupy your time in multiple ways, rather than relying on just one,” he said.
“And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I thoroughly enjoy, and continue to appreciate what I’ve earned—what we’ve earned.” After all, it has been 25 years filled with numerous sacrifices.
Ronaldo will remain with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr this season as he aims for the milestone of 1,000 career goals.
His remarks have suggested that the ongoing campaign might mark the concluding chapter of one of football’s most illustrious and lengthy careers.
