Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lawyer criticizes the judge after the sentencing

The lawyer for Sean “Diddy” Combs has criticized the judge who sentenced the disgraced music entrepreneur to more than four years in prison.

In a New York court on Friday, 03.10.25, the 55-year-old rapper was sentenced to 50 months in prison after being convicted of two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution in July. Marc Agnifilo has accused Judge Arun Subramanian of “second guesseding” the jurors.

“We believe that today’s events involved the judge acting as a 13th juror and second-guessing the jury,” he told reporters.

Despite the jury’s acquittal of the I’ll Be Missing You hitmaker on charges that he had relocated his victims over state lines using force or compulsion, Combs’ legal team intends to appeal the judge’s use of coercion as justification for the lengthy sentence, which includes time already served.

“We believe that to be completely at odds with the jury’s decision,” the lawyer continued.

“The jury’s decision was very evident. Since everything was consenting and adult, there was no sex trafficking or racketeering, which is why he was found guilty of merely prostitution.

According to fellow lawyer Brian Steel, the sentencing hearing was a “very bad day for everybody.”

He continued by saying, “A human being is currently in custody for 50 months due to conduct that the jury heard, decided, and rejected.”

Before the trial of his well-known client was over, Marc had commended the judge’s actions.

“Judge Subramanian is a very fair judge, and he worked remarkably hard to give us as fair a trial as possible,” he said at the time, speaking to Variety.

Because no trial is flawless, this one wasn’t. However, the judge’s thoughtfulness, caution, and generous amount of time to the parties were excellent. I have nothing but positive things to say about our judge. He is an amazing individual. Furthermore, I felt this trial was quite close, even if no lawyer or trial is flawless.

The prosecution wanted him imprisoned for 11 years, while the defense team had asked for a 14-month term.

The judge warned the disgraced rapper that although he would have to spend “hard time in prison” away from his family, he would still “have a life afterwards” after imposing the punishment.

In addition to Diddy’s $500,000 punishment, the judge honored “the other brave survivors who came forward” and the celebrity’s ex-partner Cassie Ventura.

We listened to you,” he stated. It will be impossible for Sean Combs to erase these heinous crimes that were made public.

“All I can say is that you are a source of pride for your families and your children. It’s not easy, but you gave the women who feel helpless a voice and challenged the status quo. You weren’t just speaking to the jury.

Even though the judge admitted that the Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down hitmaker was now in a “dark place,” he also assured the rapper that there is “light at the end of the tunnel” for him and his family.

He remarked: “You will have a life after this difficult period in prison, away from your friends, family, and neighborhood.

“Every single one of those letters I saw demonstrates how many people adore you. Now, let them encourage you in the same way that you have encouraged them for so many years.

In his statement to the court before to receiving his jail sentence, Diddy called his actions “disgusting, shameful, and sick.”

“I was incredibly ill from the drugs,” he added. I needed help because I was out of control, but I didn’t get it, and I can’t blame my mother for teaching me this.

In the gallery, Diddy turned to face his mother Janice and apologized, saying, “I failed you as a son.”
