Kenya’s Sanaipei Tande raises the country’s flag high at the Intervision contest in Russia

Nairobi’s Sanaipei Tande recently competed in the “Intervision” international music contest in Moscow, Russia. With contestants from 21 countries, the event is a chance for people from all over the world to share their cultures and customs.

She sang her song “Flavour” for her show. Her performance was called “fiery rhythms” that got a lot of people dancing, and she was happy to represent her country.

Kenya actually came in 18th out of 21 countries that competed, despite doing very well. Vietnam won the competition.

Intervision is a bringback of a Soviet-era music contest that Russia started after being kicked out of the more famous Eurovision Song Contest. Contestants from each country sing in their own language and focus on traditional values and patriotic songs.

With her involvement in Intervision, Sanaipei adds another important chapter to her long and successful career, which stretches over 20 years and includes music, acting, and broadcasting.

Whatever we know so far, the winner of the Intervision game will get 30 million Russian rubles, which is about $360,000 USD or Ksh. 46 million.

No information is known about how much money other participants, like Sanaipei Tande, got for taking part. The game is called a competition with a prize for the winner, but it doesn’t say how much money the unsuccessful participants will get.

Kenya’s entry, Sanaipei Tande, was revealed on August 29, 2025, on the official Intervision website. Each country’s government works directly with other governments to make sure their citizens can join in the Intervision Song Contest, which is organized by the Russian government. Nairobi, Kenya, and Sanaipei Tande’s entries were announced on the contest’s official website on August 20, 2025.
