Sean “Diddy” Combs requests an early release prior to sentencing
His 14-month sentence was described by his lawyers as “just punishment.”
A sentencing memo submitted by Sean “Diddy” Combs’s legal team calls for his almost immediate release from prison prior to his sentence on October 3.
In court filings on Monday, September 22, as seen in documents VIBE was able to get, the lawyers for the founder of Bad Boy Records contended that he should be given a shorter term because he was found not guilty of the more serious offenses, like sex trafficking.
“Mr. Combs’s reputation and career have been ruined in the last two years,” the document stated. He was imprisoned for more than a year at one of America’s most infamous prisons, yet he has taken full advantage of his sentence. In order for Mr. Combs to complete his treatment and focus on the next phase of his remarkable life, it is time for him to return home to his family.
Additionally, Combs’ defense team contended that the only punishment that would comply with Congress’ directive “to avoid unwarrantedsentence disparities among defendants with similar records who have been found guilty of similar conduct” is a maximum 14-month sentence, which is currently being served at one of the worst federal facilities in the nation.
They went on to say that Combs has been under regular suicide watch and has had limited access to clean water and nutritious food, saying the disgraced music mogul has received “just punishment for the offense.”
Additionally, more than 75 letters of support from Combs’ family and close friends were included in the file. These included his mother, Janice Combs, children Quincy Brown, Justin, D’Lila, Jessie, Opportunity,
Christian, the moms of two of his children, Sarah Chapman and Dana Tran, along with Dallas Austin, Carl Thomas, Yung Miami (Caresha Brownlee), Stevie J, and Stephen Hill.
“I don’t know how much longer I will be around, but I would love to be able to see him and his children together again,” Combs’ mother said, pleading with the judge to “have mercy” on her ex-boyfriend, while the latter called him a “good man.”
The maximum penalty for each of the two prostitution charges Combs was found guilty of in July was ten years in jail.
