Drake is criticized by A$AP Rocky for suing UMG for Kendrick Lamar’s song “Not Like Us”

A$AP acknowledges that he is perplexed by Drake’s choice to file a lawsuit.

A$AP Rocky offers his thoughts on the most recent developments in the continuing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, namely Drake’s unexpected legal action against Universal Music Group in relation to Lamar’s number-one diss song, “Not Like Us.”

Reflecting on the lyrical battle that dominated spring 2024, the Harlem rapper, whose cover story in ELLE was released Tuesday (Sept. 23), produced notable singles like Drake’s angry retort “Family Matters,” which included jabs at Rocky himself, and Kendrick’s “Euphoria.”

Rocky, however, decided against joining the battle.

A$AP described the battle as “healthy for Hip-Hop,” pointing out that it rekindled the competitive spirit of rap. Drake and Kendrick, not Drake and everyone else who might have spoken at the time, were engaged in combat. And I slipped back primarily for that reason.

Rocky, however, said that his admiration for the fight soured after Drake decided to file a lawsuit over “Not Like Us,” a diss track that transformed from a viral hit to a cultural powerhouse that dominated radio and charts.

“With [Drake] suing and everything, I just hate how it’s turning out,” Rocky remarked. What is that in the game? That’s what kind of sh*t? I suppose that is none of my concern.

Rocky’s criticism is more significant in light of his complex relationship with Drake. They were once tourmates and collaborators, but their relationship has since broken down, allegedly as a result of Rocky’s friendship with Rihanna.

With songs like “Work” and “What’s My Name,” Drake and Rihanna’s romance has been a mainstay of mainstream culture for a long time.

However, by 2018, Rihanna informed Vogue that the two had broken up, citing the aftermath from Drake’s 2016 MTV VMA public declaration of love.

The most awkward part was definitely having to wait through the speech. At the time, she stated, “I don’t like to be criticized or receive too many compliments.” “Although we are no longer friends, we are also not adversaries. It is what it is.

Rocky and Rihanna are currently partners and parents to two kids, Riot and RZA, with plans to have more soon. Right now, RiRi is expecting their third child.
