Owen Cooper, 15, is the youngest male Emmy winner in history for his work on Netflix’s “Adolescence”
Owen Cooper, 15, makes Emmy history as “Adolescence” wins six awards and takes the top spot.
On Sunday night, Owen Cooper, a teen actor, shocked everyone by becoming the youngest male Emmy winner ever. He was only 15 years old. Cooper won for his breakout part in the Netflix miniseries Adolescence, which also won six awards and came out on top as the night’s biggest winner.
He said, “I was nothing about three years ago, and now I’m here,” in his victory speech. “Get out of your comfort zone for a while; it won’t hurt, right?” At a ceremony honoring newbies and veterans from all over television, his words struck a chord.
The Studio, a satire about work by Seth Rogen, won four awards, including best lead character in a comedy for Rogen. He joked on stage, “I’m really embarrassed by how happy this makes me.” The Pitt, on the other hand, shocked everyone by beating out huge hits Severance and The White Lotus to win best drama. Still, Severance won two big awards, which made the loss less painful for its loyal fans.
The ceremony, which was hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, went by surprisingly quickly because of a fun twist: a $100,000 gift to charity was taken away for every speech that went over 45 seconds. The trick kept the winners short while still letting them have touching moments.
Sydney Sweeney, Pedro Pascal, and Jenna Ortega brought high fashion to Los Angeles, and the red carpet was a sight to see. A lot of fashion coverage quickly spread on social media, which added to the night’s mix of high-class and popular culture attraction.
People who watch the awards mostly got Sunday’s winners right. Noah Wyle won for best lead actor in a drama, Jean Smart won again for Hacks in the comedy category, and Rogen lived up to expectations in the comedy category. Still, some forecasts came true. At the start of the night, The White Lotus had long odds in the supporting categories. However, Katherine LaNasa of The Pitt and Tramell Tillman of Severance won, so the HBO favorite didn’t get the win it was hoping for.
There were big surprises, historic wins, and a very rare on-time finish at the Emmys this year. They were unpredictable and unforgettable.
