Ellen DeGeneres Facing Negligence Lawsuit
A woman who did not want to be named said that the 67-year-old former talk show host caused a car accident on October 16, 2023, when she drove through a stop sign in Santa Barbara County and hit the plaintiff’s car.
People magazine got documents that said the “intersection [where the incident occurred] is controlled by stop signs in all directions.”
The woman said she stopped at her sign and “made sure there were no other vehicles” around before moving forward. But Ellen crashed into her car “suddenly and without any warning,” hurting and damaging the other driver’s car in several ways.
“Ellen DeGeneres entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign,” the claim said.
People say that the Finding Dory star was careless and didn’t act with the normal level of care a reasonable person would have shown. They also say that she “negligently caused or contributed to causing plaintiff’s vehicle to be collided with by the defendants’ vehicle.”
The woman is suing for general negligence and an undisclosed amount of money in damages. She says she has lost wages, racked up medical and hospital bills, and experienced “loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, and anxiety.”
Ellen and her wife Portia Di Rossi have since moved to England to start a new life. Ellen recently said that “everything is just better” there.
When asked about her new life in England, the TV star said she was loving it.
She told Richard Bacon on the radio, “It’s absolutely beautiful.” We don’t see this much beauty very often. Everything you see, from the villages and towns to the buildings, is beautiful, and life is just easier there.
“It’s clean.” The way people treat animals and how nice everyone is here is just better. I love this place so much.
Ellen said she’s been enjoying life in the country since she left the US a year ago.
“We moved here in November, which wasn’t the best time, but it snowed for the first time in my life,” she said. We love this place. She flew her horses here, and I have chickens. For about two weeks, we had sheep.
