Sweden and Thailand Reach a $556 Million Fighter Jet Agreement

Thailand will receive four Gripen fighter jets from Sweden between 2025 and 2030 for a total of $556 million.

A contract worth about 5.3 billion Swedish crowns ($556 million) has been finalized for Sweden to sell four Gripen fighter planes to Thailand.

The agreement was announced on Monday by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), which said it was a step that strengthened the long-term prospects of Swedish military aircraft. According to a statement from FMV Director-General Mikael Granholm, “this strengthens the long-term development opportunities for Swedish warplanes.”

Saab will provide three Gripen E aircraft and one Gripen F model as well as training, support, and equipment as per the agreement. Between 2025 and 2030, deliveries are planned.

The newest acquisition is anticipated to strengthen Thailand’s fleet, which already includes a squadron of Gripen C/D fighters.

In late-morning trading after the announcement, Saab’s stock increased by 3%.
