H&M opens its first store in Brazil with plans to manufacture locally
The Swedish fast-fashion retailer H&M began operating online and opened its first physical location in Brazil on Saturday. According to an official, the company is already manufacturing several of its products there, such as beachwear and shoes.
The short-term objective is to open four stores in the state of São Paulo in the upcoming months, according to an interview conducted on Friday by Joaquim Pereira, the country manager for H&M Brazil.
He went on to say, “This courtship with Brazil has been going on for a long time,” adding that the development required years of preparation.
Although Chinese businesses like Shein sometimes offer lower-than-average costs, H&M wants to compete domestically, the executives stated.
The national brands in Brazil are excellent, excellent, excellent. Considering both cost and quality. In my opinion, the market is quite competitive, irrespective of whether the company is local or Chinese,” Pereira stated.
The company’s whole investment in Brazil was not disclosed.
Specializing in women’s fashion, the first Brazilian store is located in a posh mall in São Paulo. Soon to open, the second location will provide a broader range of goods, such as shoes, accessories, and apparel for men, women, and children.
The regional manager for H&M’s Southern Hemisphere, Magnus Olsson, stated, “We want to have pricing that is inclusive.”
The business intends to boost domestic output while upholding international standards, Olsson stated. As of right moment, H&M imports the remaining goods from places like Bangladesh, India, and Portugal while manufacturing shoes, beachwear, and jeans in Brazil.
The CEOs stated without providing further details that H&M will eventually develop stores in additional Brazilian states.
Additionally, the firm operates a 25,000-square-meter distribution center in Minas Gerais, a state in the southeast, with the potential to grow to 40,000 square meters.
