Shatta Wale Was Arrested in Accra Regarding a US Fraud Investigation Associated With Lamborghini

Shatta Wale, a singer from Ghana, was arrested in Accra over a Lamborghini that was tied to a US fraud investigation. Fans are camping outside of EOCO.

Sheta Wale, a singer from Ghana whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, was arrested in Accra on August 20, 2025, as part of an American probe into the purchase of a Lamborghini.

Ghana’s Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) confirmed the arrest on Thursday. It has to do with a 2019 Lamborghini Urus that was reportedly bought with money from a $4 million US fraud case.

On Thursday, hundreds of fans gathered outside the EOCO office in Accra and said they would stay there all night until the singer was freed. “Until our king walks out, we won’t move, even if we sleep here,” a fan told AFP.

The investigation is linked to a larger US fraud case involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian citizen who is facing a prison sentence in the US, the EOCO said.

EOCO says that the Lamborghini, which was taken earlier this year, is subject to a US District Court order from the Eastern District of Kentucky that lets the US government take possession of the car in Ghana as payment.

Shatta Wale went to the EOCO on Wednesday afternoon to wait for his lawyer before being questioned all night. He was given bail of 10 million cedis, which is about $900,000, but he stayed in jail until his guarantors were checked out.

The office said that the singer has not shown any proof that he or she owns the car. Investigators say Shatta Wale told them he bought the Lamborghini for ^$150,000 on the “street,” possibly through a WhatsApp contact named “Zak,” but he wouldn’t say who it was and said he deleted the contact.

The FBI and the US Department of Justice asked EOCO to track the car and look for leads in the area, which it did.

Shatta Wale’s lawyers have said that he bought the car in good faith and denied knowing anything about any illegal ties.
