John Amos’s daughter and son are getting ready to go to court against each other over the actor’s estate
His daughter Shannon Amos said that his son K.C. Amos violated elder abuse, lied, and caused the death of another person.
Their father, John Amos, died because his daughter accused her brother of abusing their father, which led to the death. The Hollywood Reporter says that Shannon Amos is fighting her brother Kelly Christopher Amos (K.C.) for fraud, elder abuse, and wrongful death. In the ongoing lawsuit, John Amos’s former caretaker Belinda Foster, close friend Eugene Brummett, and his production company, Step and One Half Productions, are also named.
Shannon Amos told the news source that K.C. tricked John Amos into signing several court papers that gave him control of the estate, while ignoring the actor’s worsening health. It is said that K.C. started to keep John away from other people in 2019 and started texting and emailing as John.
The filing said, “This cruel and planned isolation was meant to make John Amos completely dependent on K.C. Amos for all of his personal, financial, and important medical decisions.” Brummet and Foster are accused of helping K.C. do what is thought to be theft.
“What K.C. Amos, Belinda Foster, and Eugene Brummett did to my father in the last few years of his life is cruel and beyond my understanding,” Shannon Amos told THR.
The star from “Good Times” passed away in August 2024, but most people didn’t find out about it until October of that year. It was 45 days after his death that Shannon said he found out about his death on social media. John Amos allegedly wanted to keep his death a secret as his last wish so that his daughter would not “turn his death and interment into a circus,” according to a statement from Foster.
“John was afraid that Shannon would make his death and burial into a circus, like she had done with other parts of his life, when he died.” Foster said, “John asked that Shannon and the rest of the world not be told about his death right away.”
In the days after he died, John Amos was burned at the stake. Shannon has not ruled out foul play, even though congestive heart failure was reported as the cause of death for the 84-year-old. An examination was not done.
Shannon said in June 2023 that John Amos had been a victim of “elder abuse and financial exploitation.” Reports say that the star denied the claims. After reportedly sending threats to his sister with pictures of guns, videos of him shooting the guns, and claims that he was part of a gang, K.C. Amos was arrested the following month.
