Apple is negotiating to fuel Siri’s redesign with Google’s Gemini AI, according to Bloomberg News
Bloomberg News reported on Friday that Apple (AAPL.O) is in early discussions to employ Google’s (GOOGL.O) Gemini AI to update the Siri voice assistant, according to people familiar with the situation.
Apple’s stock was up 1.6% and Alphabet’s was up 3.7%, both of which continued their gains in afternoon trading after the revelation.
According to the story, Apple recently asked Google, a division of Alphabet, to create a unique AI model that would power a revamped Siri next year.
Apple has not yet selected a partner and is still weeks away from making a decision on whether to continue using internal Siri models or seek outside assistance.
Google stated that it had no comment on the report, and when approached, the iPhone manufacturer did not reply.
Smartphone manufacturers like Google and Samsung (005930.KS) have incorporated advanced assistants and advanced models into their products more quickly than Apple, which has fallen behind in implementing generative AI features.
This possible change follows setbacks to a long-awaited Siri redesign that would allow for complete voice-based device control and use personal context to carry out responsibilities.
Due to engineering delays, that renovation, which was originally scheduled for this spring, was postponed by a year.
When it comes to interacting with third-party apps and managing intricate, multi-step queries, Siri has generally lagged behind Alexa and Google Assistant.
Bloomberg News previously reported that Apple also explored possible partnerships with Anthropic and OpenAI earlier last year, examining if Claude or ChatGPT could power a redesigned Siri.
