Tinubu declares that “Nigeria is on the rise again” and calls on Nigerians living abroad to return home
President Tinubu has called on Nigerians living abroad to come back, stating that their efforts are needed as Nigeria is once again on the rise.
Declaring that Nigeria is once again on the rise under his leadership and that its progress depends on the contributions of its residents abroad, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians living abroad to not “stay away” from their homeland.
Speaking to members of the Nigerian community Thursday at the Kahala Hotel and Resort in Yokohama, Japan, during an interactive session held on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), the President stated that his administration is dedicated to fostering an atmosphere in which all citizens can prosper.
“I enjoy hearing what you have to say. Tinubu declared, “I’m pleased to say that a large number of our people are going back home.” Although it’s a fundamental freedom of the individual, some people may choose to leave for economic reasons. However, given Nigeria’s economic growth and opportunities, don’t leave. Your assistance is much required. If you don’t, who will construct it?
The president emphasized the need for both domestic and foreign citizens to take responsibility for national growth, not only the government.
“We’ve lost the hope of being the leaders we are supposed to be if we don’t join hands and work together,” he said, advising Nigerians living overseas to continue serving as ambassadors for their nation and presenting a favorable picture when they interact with others.
True citizenship, Tinubu told his audience, is more than just having a Nigerian passport. He added that unfavorable depictions of Nigeria deter investment and collaborations that are necessary for development, saying, “It is about character and commitment to the nation’s progress.”
The President highlighted improvements, including better passport issuance procedures, stable economic fundamentals, and healthcare initiatives to combat medical tourism. He added that government initiatives were increasing the stock market, drawing in investment, and opening up new commercial prospects.
He asserted that “leadership is about thinking and doing — combining visionary ideas with practical actions to drive stability, unity, and growth.” “Nigeria is once again rising.”
Nigerian community members in Japan, including students, professionals, and business owners, vowed to support the administration’s changes and indicated that they were willing to look into ways they might help transform Nigeria.
Thanking Tinubu for speaking with them directly, Mr. Emeka Ebogota, President of the Nigerian Union in Japan, reaffirmed the Union’s backing for the government’s attempts to realign the nation.
Top government officials, along with leaders from the private sector, were also present, including Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals; Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Regional Development; Uche Nnaji, Minister of Science and Technology; Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget; and Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Finance.
