Gabrielle Union Explains Dwyane Wade’s Family’s Response To The 9-Year Age Difference
Dwyane Wade’s family were skeptical at first because he was younger than Gabrielle Union.
The 52-year-old actress from “Bring It On” started dating the 43-year-old former basketball star in 2009 and got married in 2014. She has said that her family wasn’t happy with the nine-year age difference at first.
She said on Michelle Obama’s IMO podcast, “When I met his family for the first time, the older sisters, who are about the same age as me, were friendly right away.”
“Things are fine in the neighborhood.” But with Tragil, the older sister, because she has been the guardian… She has kept an eye on things.
“She has been his guardian angel to keep him sane and let him do everything he needs to do without anyone getting in the way.”
Gabrielle revealed to Tragil, and their mother Jolinda even asked her why she did what she did before they got married.
“Before I became a wife, when we were just starting out, I think Tragil and his mom were like, ‘What do you want?'” What do you look like, you old woman? What do you need?
“I said, ‘Well, we both just got divorced, so we’re kind of in the same place.'”
“I wasn’t married when I was 20, and I still don’t have a child. I’m not in a hurry to get married, so I’m straight.” I’m good now that I have my own bank account. “I like him, let’s see what happens.”
Gabrielle said that it took “years” for them to really “earn” each other’s trust.
She said, “It really took years to earn their trust and for them to earn mine so that we could both feel safe.”
“Now it’s simple, since we’re all on the same side.”
If you want that grace, you have to give it, and then you will receive it. But there is definitely a learning curve.
