Busta Rhymes will get the first MTV VMA Rock The Bells Visionary Award

Ricky Martin is set to receive the Latin Icon Award at the annual event.

Busta Rhymes is poised to create a significant moment at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The esteemed rapper has been honored with the Inaugural MTV VMA Rock The Bells Visionary Award, which will be presented at this year’s ceremony. The 53-year-old is set to take the stage to honor this significant career milestone. 

On Monday morning (Aug. 18), it was announced that Alex Warren, J Balvin featuring DJ Snake, Ricky Martin, Sabrina Carpenter, and sombr are officially booked as performers for the 2025 VMAs. Furthermore, Ricky Martin is set to receive the Latin Icon Award.

The 2025 ceremony will feature Hip-Hop icon LL Cool J as the host. The Queens native previously co-hosted in 2022 alongside Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow, and in 1997, he made VMA history as the first rapper to receive the prestigious Video Vanguard Award.

Lady Gaga tops this year’s nominations with a total of 12, featuring categories such as Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Album, and others. The 39-year-old stands as the leading nominee for the third occasion, boasting a total of 18 career victories. Bruno Mars trails closely behind his previously mentioned collaborator with a total of 11 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar holds the third highest number of nominations with 10.

Other nominees are Beyoncé, ROSÉ, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Charli xcx, Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus, Tate McRae, Leon Thomas, Freddie Gibbs, Lay Bankz, and Brent Faiyaz.
