Jeff Bezos Pays Tribute to Mom
Jeff Bezos’ mother passed away.
Following her death at the age of 78 “after a long fight with Lewy body dementia,” the Amazon CEO has paid tribute to Jackie Bezos, with whom he co-founded the Bezos Family Foundation.
“Her adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17,” Jeff posted on social media on Thursday, August 14, 25. She managed to make things work, even though it couldn’t have been simple.
She jumped at the chance to love me fiercely, brought my amazing father on board a few years later, and then expanded her list of people to include my sister and brother. That list of individuals to love continued to expand during her remaining years. She consistently provided far more than she ever requested.
She died tonight, surrounded by a large group of people who loved her, including my dad, her kids, and grandkids, after a protracted battle with Lewy body dementia. In those last moments, I’m sure she felt our affection. Being in her life was such a blessing for all of us. I will always keep her safe in my heart.
In a heartfelt farewell, Jeff, 61, sent a direct note to Jackie, who is also survived by her husband, Mike Bezos, her other children, Christina and Mark, eleven grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
“I love you, mom,” he wrote.
Among the people who left comments on her husband’s page was Jeff’s wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos.
“We will miss her SO much,” she wrote. Love you [emojis of a heart and a broken heart] (sic)
While Sharon Stone wrote: “My sincere condolences I just lost my mom too,” Katy Perry added an emoji of a shattered heart.
In a Spanish-language response, Antonio Banderas expressed his sorrow, saying, “My deepest sympathy to you.” Much fortitude during these trying times. (sic)
Designer Philipp Plein, Naomi Campbell, and Miranda Kerr were among the other celebrities who left condolences in the comment area.
The Bezos Family Foundation initially broke the news, recalling Jackie as a “loyal mother” who “always” prioritized her children.
“She spent many hours overseeing cheerleading practices with Christina, hauled drums in the back of the family station wagon for Mark, and made innumerable trips to Radio Shack for Jeff,” they said in a statement.
She devoted her life to her family and gave her all to bring up her kids with empathy, tolerance, and discernment.
Everyone felt heard, safe, and cared for in the environment that Jackie established. She had an amazing ability to make people feel like family, whether it was by providing a plate of food, some guidance, or just a listening ear.
“Jacklyn Gise Bezos was a fierce advocate and supporter, full of heart for others, and never accepting the status quo, to the countless people she touched throughout a remarkable life.”
According to the foundation, the family requested that instead of flowers, visitors “perform a simple act of kindness in her memory or support a nonprofit organization that is meaningful to you.”
