Halle Berry responds to her ex-husband’s assertion that they split up because she didn’t clean and cook
Halle Berry retaliated against her ex-husband David Justice on her birthday.
On Thursday, the Monster’s Ball actress celebrated her 59th birthday by posting pictures from her tropical vacation with boyfriend Van Hunt on Instagram. The pictures showed her grinning in a bikini, holding a wine glass in her toes, and holding the envelope containing the birthday card from her children, Nahla, 17, and Maceo, 11, who she has with Gabriel Aubry and Olivier Martinez, respectively.
Additionally, Halle couldn’t help but make fun of David in the caption of her Instagram image, as he had previously stated that the Bruised actress’ lack of domesticity was the reason their marriage had failed.
“Phew…! cooking, cleaning, and mothering,” she wrote.
In their four-year marriage, the former Major League Baseball player recently acknowledged that Halle’s job and independence were major issues for him.
David, who wed the actress in 1993, stated in an interview with Matt Barnes’ All the Smoke podcast: “My knowledge and understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn’t vast.” I’m a Midwest boy, and I’m looking at my mom. In my perspective, a woman at that time should, you know, cook, clean, and [be] traditional.
“Then I’m thinking, ‘Well, is this the woman I want to have children with and start a family with if we have children?'” She didn’t cook, clean, or seem like a mother figure at the time, so we started having problems as a young man.
David stated that after five months of dating, Halle proposed to him, and he agreed despite his reservations. He also claimed that the couple didn’t get any “negative attention until I decided to leave her in 1996.”
After five months of getting to know me, she asked me to marry her, he claimed. I couldn’t say no, so I said OK. At that point, who would say no?
“I don’t know if I was only in the moment or if my heart was truly into it, but I didn’t want to make her feel bad by saying no.”
Additionally, he attributed the breakdown of their marriage to his inexperience in relationships and her career.
