Cardi B, a rapper, samples a Jay-Z classic in her latest song
Cardi B’s much anticipated second studio album, Am I The Drama?, has released its second song, Imaginary Playerz.
The song, which was produced by DJ SwanQo, Sean Island, and OctaneThisThatGas, features a sample of Jay-Z’s 1997 hit song “Imaginary Player.” It is a swagger-soaked hymn that amplifies Cardi’s trademark boldness.
On X Space last week, Cardi revealed to fans that she had received the music mogul’s blessing: “I was very thrilled because you guys understand, the song is kinda long… This song is a mainstay of mine, and I had to get the one and only to approve it.
“This record is really hip-hop, and I hope you all like it.”
Cardi and Patience Foster, her longtime artistic partner, co-directed the film’s accompanying companion video.
She’s already sold out several limited-edition merchandise box sets through her joint business, including a WWE collaboration that made headlines. The alternate album cover art and the recently released Imaginary Playerz box set are currently available on CardiB.com, but only in limited quantities.
The WWE connection goes beyond appearances. On August 2, Cardi hosted SummerSlam for the first time, causing fans to go crazy as she gave a sneak peek at new songs. She released the first song from Am I The Drama?, Outside, that same week. It became her 13th Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and shot to the top of the charts on Apple Music, her first since the multi-platinum Up.
Cardi’s debut performance outside at the Cannes Spotify Beach Party in June marked the beginning of her new era.
Am I the One Creating the Drama? September 19 is the release date.
