Tinubu Leaves for High-Level Discussions and an Investment Drive in Brazil and Japan

President Tinubu is scheduled to travel to Brazil and Japan, where he will engage in activities aimed at enhancing bilateral relations, trade, and investment.

On Thursday, August 14, President Bola Tinubu will go for Brazil and Japan, stopping in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, along the way.

The President will first attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22, according to a press release from the State House on Wednesday, which was released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The conference, which has as its theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will cover topics such as Africa’s business environment, institutional advancements brought about by private investment and innovation, and methods for creating a resilient and sustainable African society based on peace, stability, and human security.

According to the release, President Tinubu would meet with CEOs of Japanese corporations that have investments in Nigeria, take part in plenary sessions, and have bilateral talks. According to the statement, TICAD was started by the Japanese government in 1993 and is co-hosted by the World Bank, UNDP, UN, and the African Union Commission.

The last session of the triennial meeting, which alternates between Africa and Japan, took place in Tunisia in August 2022.

The release also revealed that, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Nigerian leader will make a two-day state visit to Brasilia, Brazil, from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, following TICAD9. He will participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors while in Brazil, as well as have bilateral discussions with his host.

Together with formalizing agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government, the delegation—which includes important ministries and senior officials—will also look for new ways to further collaboration.
