Noah Centineo’s role in the Rambo prequel

The 29-year-old actor has joined the cast of John Rambo, a prequel to the well-known action movie series that starred Sylvester Stallone as the Vietnam War veteran suffering from PTSD.

According to insiders, Lionsgate is the front-runner to win the deal after publishing the first two installments in the series, and the picture is anticipated to begin production in Thailand in early 2026.

Sisu director Jalmari Helander will direct John Rambo, which is based on a screenplay by Sohrab Noshirvani and Rory Haines.

Though the exact plot is unknown, the film will tell the story of a young John Rambo’s beginnings during the Vietnam War.

Following the 1982 release of the first Rambo movie, Stallone portrayed the character in four follow-ups that have brought in over $800 million at the global box office.

In addition to playing Atom Smasher in the 2022 superhero film Black Adam, Centineo has acted in the Netflix series The Recruit.

Additionally, he is scheduled to feature in the 2026 film adaptation of the iconic computer game Street Fighter, which also stars Jason Momoa and Andrew Koji.

After learning that Ryan Gosling, a Barbie star, was a huge admirer of the franchise as a child, Stallone had previously hinted that he wanted the actor to play Rambo in the future.

“I met him at a dinner and obviously we’re opposites,” the 79-year-old actor said last year on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He’s attractive, but I’m not. That’s how it functions.

However, he continues, “I was captivated by Rambo and used to attend school dressed as Rambo. People would chase me away, but I persisted.”

He kept stating that he was closely associated with Rambo, and I found this to be intriguing. He adores the persona, therefore I will give it to him if I ever pass the torch.

When he prepared for the part by being “reticent” like his alter persona, Stallone admitted that he irritated his family. His final appearance as the character was in the critically acclaimed 2019 film Rambo: Last Blood.

“I start to brood and become reticent,” the Rocky legend said to Collider at the time. Even the dog notices how unpopular I am in the house. I actually back off and stare a lot.

Sly also discussed how Rambo, who was first featured in David Morrell’s 1972 book First Blood, was a product of his difficult upbringing.
