Mario Lopez wins an extension of the restraining order against the cheerleader who is suing him for defamation
Mario Lopez and a former cheerleader have not yet reconciled. But since she is prohibited from approaching him, he may go about his day in peace.
Desiree Townsend accused the Hollywood star of posting an embarrassing video of herself, which led to a $25 million defamation lawsuit against him. He recently obtained an extension of the prohibition after he filed a temporary restraining order against her.
The plaintiff said that justice was not done, and the minor legal win left them with a bad taste in their mouth. On the witness stand, she had earlier criticized Mario Lopez for losing control, saying he “completely lost it” and verbally assaulted her.
Mario Lopez Wins His Defamation Suit Against The Cheerleader
After she showed up at Townsend’s house to deliver litigation documents, Lopez obtained a restraining order against him. The actor claimed that her actions put his and his family’s safety in danger after she recorded the encounter and posted it on social media.
Through his lawyer, Lopez contended that Townsend’s behavior qualified as harassment. She retaliated, though, saying that he and his attorneys had used his social media account to do the same to her. In the end, the judge decided in favor of Lopez.
Townsend must maintain a minimum of 100 yards from Lopez and his family, according to the legal umpire, who prolonged Lopez’s restraining order until February 2027. The irate paralegal expressed her displeasure with the judge’s decision to RadarOnline after the ruling, calling it “a very bizarre hearing.”
The ex-cheerleader intends to challenge the decision.
Insinuating that the legal umpire was biased, the former cheerleader-turned-paralegal said: “The judge openly stated that I ‘needed to be taught a lesson,’ despite the statute’s purpose being to prevent future harm, not to punish alleged past conduct.”
Townsend went on to say that the judge “disregarded Lopez’s in-court outburst,” defending his rage rather than labeling his actions as problematic. She emphasized that she will appeal the decision and that she “strongly disagrees” with it.
After days of a contentious court struggle, the restraining order was extended. Townsend claimed Lopez lost emotional control during a hearing last Wednesday, according to the Blast, which covered the story.

Townsend claims that Lopez screamed so loudly and became extremely abusive while the witness stand that the judge had to try to calm him down. She pointed out that he allegedly called her “crazy,” “unhinged,” and a “stalker” while claiming to be “so p-ssed” and insulting her.
In 2024, Townsend posted an embarrassing video of Lopez, which sparked the tension between them. The paralegal was seen dancing wildly and slurring her words on camera, which she attributed to dystonia, a rare neurological disorder.
However, Lopez seemed completely normal weeks later, suggesting she was pretending. Townsend was offended by his remarks and sued him for $25 million in defamation, claiming that he had used a false story to seriously injure her both personally and professionally.
Iraq’s decision to lower the age of consent for girls shocked the actor.
In 2024, Lopez was not only troubled by Townsend but also by Iraq’s decision to reduce the age of consent for girls from 18 to 9. He was one of the first celebs to respond to the news, writing, “WTF?” as others had similar reactions, according to The Blast.
Along with other female parliamentarians, Raya Faiq, an activist who works with female representatives in the Iraqi parliament, led attempts to halt the planned legislation. They contended that the bill would deprive women of their basic rights and safeguards and open the door for child marriages.
In an ad, Faiq strongly denounced the law as a “catastrophe for women.” She emphasized that if the dads decided to marry off their children at an early age, it would legalize “child rape” and leave moms unable to protect them.
