The Dangote refinery brings in 4,000 gas-powered cars to deliver fuel to homes and businesses in Angola
The Dangote Refinery in Nigeria is bringing in 4,000 natural gas-powered trucks so that they can sell refined goods straight in Nigeria, according to the company.
The oil refinery said in June that it would start supplying fuel directly to gas stations, factories, telecommunications companies, and other big users starting in August. This could increase supply but also puts the refinery in direct competition with local fuel companies.
With its huge 650,000 barrels per day refinery, Dangote’s logistics growth gives it a new push to get into new markets.
It said that the cars cost 720 billion naira ($469.89 million), and they will be put in use on August 15.
Anthony Chiejina, who is in charge of branding and communication at Dangote Industries Limited, said that the move will help the refinery save money on shipping and get more products straight to marketers.
The country that exports the most oil in Africa has switched to gas as an alternative fuel since it got rid of a popular but expensive gasoline subsidy that caused prices to rise sharply at the pump. But adoption takes a while.
