Mike Tyson was sued for promoting the Jake Paul fight using songs by JAY-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule

Ty Fyffe, the record’s producer, said the song helped increase fight watching.

A lawsuit has been filed against Mike Tyson for allegedly using a song to advertise a bout without authorization. In question is the song “Murdergram” by JAY-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule, which was featured in a social media footage concerning Tyson’s altercation with Jake Paul that was shared on his accounts.

Ty Fyffe, the record’s producer, filed the second lawsuit on Thursday, August 7. According to Billboard, none of the three rappers or their representatives are involved in the lawsuit, and “Murdergram” was featured in JAY-Z’s 1998 movie Streets Is Watching.

Fyffe’s lawsuit contains screenshots of the post, along with the caption, “You know what time it is #PaulTyson,” even though the purported video has already been removed from the famed fighter’s page.

According to the petition, “Defendant Tyson was not authorized by the plaintiff or any of his representatives to use the song title ‘Murdergram’ to promote his boxing match with Jake Paul.” “Defendant Tyson deceived viewers into thinking that plaintiff supported him and/or his involvement in the match by including the song title ‘Murdergram’ on his Instagram post.”

According to the complaint, the use of “Murdergram” contributed to the enormous fight’s record-breaking viewership on Netflix. Additionally, it claims that Tyson was fully aware of the song’s producer’s copyright. In addition to asking for royalties for the song’s usage, he wants a share of Tyson’s profits from the event.

According to the complaint, “Defendant Tyson’s conduct was deliberate, willful, and with full knowledge of plaintiff’s copyright in the song.” “The plaintiff has experienced and will continue to experience financial losses and harm to his copyright in the song as a result of defendant Tyson’s infringement.”

The fight happened at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on November 15, 2024. Paul prevailed by a unanimous vote. View the highlights below.
