‘Kerfuffle’ With Michelle Obama: Stephen A. Smith Explains
Stephen A. Smith says he doesn’t have a grudge against Michelle Obama, even though some of the things she said recently upset him.
The talk show star from ESPN talked about the rumors on “CUOMO,” telling host Chris Cuomo that things have been blown out of control.
What Stephen A. Smith Says About Michelle Obama Calling ESPN “Drama”
Smith said, “She’ll always be my First Lady.” “In my opinion, she is the best First Lady in American history.” I really respect her. But it makes me wonder how real of a sports fan her husband really is.
Obama started the fight without warning on a recent episode of her “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast (IMO).” Smith responded.
“If I listen to ESPN for an hour, it’s like watching ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta,'” she joked about her media habits. Same story; they’re yelling at each other because they don’t get along, you know? “Stephen A. Smith is just like every other talk show host,” I said.
The host of the show didn’t laugh when a guest said Smith would make a “great Real Housewife.”
He replied to Hannity on Fox News earlier this week, calling the comparison “disrespectful” and questioning Obama’s whole knowledge of sports. Smith was very clear: “There’s no connection [between us and Housewives].” “These are some of the best professional athletes in the world…in contrast to reality TV stars who can barely act.”
Smith doesn’t like how calm Obama is in court.
Smith tried to be more fair on “CUOMO,” but he still made fun of Barack Obama, saying that the former president was “too smooth, too cool for school” to ever be a real sports fan.
“Every sports fan I’ve met is loud, annoying, and ready to throw things at their TVs,” he said. “In the meantime, Obama is doing nothing but keeping quiet as his Bulls win with Jordan and lose without him.”
Smith’s defense of sports also got stronger. He said that, unlike reality TV, “sports is reality” with “real talent, real competition, and real athleticism.”
Stephen A. Smith says that Michelle Obama’s campaign comments “offended” him, but he still thinks she is “wonderful.”
But the host said there was another reason Michelle’s words stuck with him: they were from when she was campaigning for Kamala Harris. Smith said it hurt him when she said that voting for Trump would be “a vote against women.”
Smith told Cuomo, “As a Black man, I was shocked and, dare I say it, offended.” “The economy, immigration, and street safety are all important to everyone for different reasons.” For someone to vote for that problem instead of yours is a vote against you? That doesn’t seem possible to me.
Smith said that his respect for Michelle Obama has not changed at all, despite what was in the news. He said, “That’s the only thing I’ve ever disliked about her.” “Because if not, I like her a lot.”
From Team Sports to Government?
While Stephen A. Smith is publicly flirting with a whole new area of politics, he is also having a back-and-forth with Michelle Obama.
Some days before he spoke on “CUOMO,” Smith was on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” where he didn’t say that he wouldn’t run for president himself. Colbert asked Smith if he would think about starting his political career at the top. Smith answered right away, “Why not?”
The ESPN pro has been a top sports commentator for more than 20 years. Recently, he’s turned his voice to politics through his podcast, where he criticizes both Democrats and Republicans on a regular basis. “I have registered as an Independent.” “I don’t like either party,” Smith said, saying that Washington’s gridlock was caused by politics that “uses pawns” of regular Americans.
