Bid Farewell to the Hulu App: Disney+ Will Replace It

By 2026, Disney intends to fully integrate Hulu into Disney+.

It’s official: Hulu is leaving and permanently relocating to Disney+. The Hulu app as we know it will disappear by 2026, signaling the end of a streaming age and a significant shift in Disney’s changing digital strategy.

This was not an unexpected change. Disney paid $438.7 million to acquire NBCUniversal’s remaining interest in Hulu earlier this year, completing its entire takeover of the streaming service. After that check completed, it became evident that Hulu would not be able to continue operating independently for very long.

Through a special “Hulu Hub,” which is now accessible to US users who have a Disney Bundle subscription, Disney has already begun integrating Hulu content into Disney+. However, fresh revelations and internal papers now support what many had suspected: Hulu programming will eventually only be available on Disney+, and the standalone Hulu app will be phased out by 2026.

In the background, Disney is also consolidating its advertising infrastructure for all platforms under one roof, simplifying everything from content promotion to ad sales. This translates into fewer duplications and a more strictly regulated content experience overall.

This may result in fewer app switching and a more efficient binge-watching experience for users. For devoted Hulu viewers, however, it also means bidding farewell to the service that gave us access to adult dramas, exclusive series, and next-day network broadcasts.

One thing is certain: Disney+ is positioning itself to dominate the rapidly evolving streaming market, regardless of whether you view this as a significant enhancement or simply another corporate consolidation.
