Soulja Boy Goes Free After Gun Charge Was Dropped

The Los Angeles case’s prosecutors say there isn’t enough proof.

Soulja Boy was arrested in Los Angeles two days ago and was later freed.

The rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested in West Hollywood early today.

Although Soulja Boy was a passenger in the car, police officers conducting a traffic stop said they saw a gun inside. He was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm because he had been convicted of past weapons offenses.

Conditions had changed by Tuesday afternoon. Authorities from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office chose not to pursue the case, so he was freed just before 2 p.m., according to court records.

“The case was declined due to insufficient evidence,” a spokesperson stated.

Soulja Boy posted a short message on Instagram after he got out of jail, saying, “First day out” on a black screen.

Although the charge was dropped, Soulja Boy will not be involved in any more court cases for now.
