Brisk walking has the potential to save lives, according to research
There are significant health benefits to walking quickly.
According to recent studies, taking a vigorous 15-minute walk each day can improve heart health and reduce mortality risk by 19%.
Even after accounting for leisure-time physical activity levels, researchers in the US found that a quick, fast walk was more beneficial than three hours of slower walking for over 80,000 persons living in low-income neighborhoods.
They contend that rather than attempting to reach the 10,000-step daily goal, people should concentrate on walking at a faster pace.
“Brisk walking offers a convenient, accessible, and low-impact activity that individuals of all ages and fitness levels can use to improve general health and cardiovascular health specifically,” wrote Professor Wei Zeng, a specialist in lifestyle factors and diseases, in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
