Sean Kingston’s mother was found guilty of fraud and given a five-year prison sentence
The singer of “Beautiful Girls” and his mother were found guilty in March.
This past March, Sean Kingston and his mother were found guilty of wire fraud, and now they know at least one of their fates. This week, his mother, Janice Turner, was sentenced.
Turner was told she would serve three years on probation and five years in jail on Wednesday, July 23. Kingston and his mother, 63, were found guilty on four charges of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud less than five months ago. Kingston will be sentenced on Aug. 28.
Turner expressed regret prior to being informed of her punishment. She apologized to the judge, according to CBS. “I wanted to make sure my youngster survived this challenging field. He was mistreated and exploited. For my son and myself, I am pleading for mercy. She and the 35-year-old singer obtained more than $1 million through wire fraud; Turner will be required to reimburse the people they defrauded, but the majority of the companies have already received payment, according to her legal team.
In 2024, Kingston and his mother pulled off a fraud plan. They conned merchants of luxury goods, such as jewels and expensive cars, among other things. They claimed to have paid for the things by wire transfer, however this was later shown to be untrue. They were taken into custody in May 2024 (Turner, Florida; Kingston, California). After being brought to the California military installation Fort Irwin, Kingston refused extradition and went back to Florida.
Moreover, each had prior legal issues. Turner spent over eighteen months in prison for bank fraud that resulted in more than $160,000, while Kingston was sentenced to two years of probation for trafficking stolen property. Kingston was arrested in April of this year following his guilty verdict, but he was released after posting a $100,000 bond.
