Bill Cosby honors co-star of the Cosby Show Malcolm-Jamal Warner after his sad death

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, his co-star on The Cosby Show, has been honored by Bill Cosby.

After portraying his on-screen son Theodore Huxtable in the TV sitcom that ran from 1984 to 1992, Cosby recalled the actor as a “great studier.” He sadly died on Sunday, July 25, at the age of 54, after drowning while on vacation in Costa Rica.

“He was always a great studier, and I really enjoyed working with him,” the 88-year-old performer told ABC News.

“He was really competent. He was always aware of his role. He always knew where to go and what his lines were.

Cosby, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women in recent years and had a conviction for sexual assault overturned in 2021, clarified that he and Malcolm stayed close after The Cosby Show concluded.

“Malcolm calls here on a regular basis,” he claimed.

According to Costa Rican authorities, Warner’s cause of death was “asphyxia by submersion.”

They “removed the body of a man who apparently died as a result of asphyxiation by submersion,” according to a statement from the nation’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ). This individual was eventually recognized as the actor, who also acted in Suits and The Resident.

The OIJ assessed “preliminary information” that stated Malcolm “entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current.”

The statement went on to say: “The Costa Rican Red Cross treated the man after he was rescued by onlookers and brought to shore.” But at the spot, he was pronounced dead.

Malcolm’s 9-1-1 co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt said that the tragedy “hurts my heart” in one of the many tributes that have been sent in from the entertainment industry.

On social media, she posted: “This breaks my heart. He was an amazing performer and a gentleman, and we were very fortunate to have him in the 9-1-1 family. I’m devastated and giving his family love.

After collaborating with Malcolm on the television show Sherri, comedian Sherri Shepherd called him “one of the most-grounded people I’ve met in our business.” Malcolm is survived by a wife and daughter, the identities of whom he has kept secret.

“As someone who grew up watching television, Malcolm continued to be one of the most grounded individuals I’ve ever encountered in our industry,” she stated. A renaissance man with humor, grace, humility, and a profound passion for culture, Malcolm was a pleasure to know. He was simply a decent man!

“The film industry is truly saddened by his passing. He loved his daughter dearly and was a proud father. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone who loved him.
