Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, along with his wife, has been indicted in yet another corruption case, according to reports from Geo TV

Imran Khan and his wife were imprisoned after a Pakistani court charged them on new allegations of unlawfully selling official goods on Thursday, according to local channel Geo.

In dozens of charges against the 72-year-old former cricket great, who has been incarcerated since late last year, the indictment was the most recent.

Bushra Bibi and Khan had previously been granted bail in the case, which is one of several “Toshakhana” claims against the state treasury.

During his 2018–22 premiership, Khan and his wife allegedly unlawfully obtained and subsequently sold presents totaling over 140 million rupees ($501,000) that were in state custody. They have denied that they have committed a crime.

In a different version of the same case, Bibi was sentenced to three years in late 2023, while Khan was sentenced to 14 years on same charges just days before a national election earlier this year.

The supreme court has, however, stayed their sentences due to appeals.

Seven timepieces, including six Rolex watches, the most costly of which was worth 85 million rupees ($305,000), and diamond jewelry were among the gifts.

Khan was also charged with instigating assaults against the military earlier this month; the case relates to his party’s violent anti-government marches from the previous year.

In the capital, Islamabad, Bibi also led thousands of followers in a fatal protest march on Nov. 25, intensifying a confrontation with the government and its military backing.

Ever since he was removed from office in 2022, Khan has been battling legal battles. According to him and his party, the military had fabricated the cases to keep him out of politics after he had a falling out with the army’s generals. The charge is denied by the army.
