Prostate cancer cases are increasing by 3% each year, and early detection could be beneficial

The American Cancer Society (ACS) reports an increase in the number of prostate cancer cases in the United States.

The ACS estimates that there will be 333,830 new cases of prostate cancer in 2026, with 36,320 deaths resulting from the disease.

The ACS reported in the Cancer Statistics 2026 Trusted Source report that cases of prostate cancer rose by 3% annually from 2014 to 2022. The most significant riseoccurredd in advanced-stage diagnoses.

Furthermore, the ACS observed that the rise in diagnoses is primarily attributed to an increase in screening among men for the disease.

“We’re observing two simultaneous trends: an increase in prostate cancer diagnoses among men and a rising proportion of these cases being identified at a more advanced stage,” stated William Dahut, MD, chief scientific officer at the ACS. “This indicates that screening conversations are occurring too late for many men, especially those at high risk for the disease.”

Prostate cancer screening aids in the early detection of the disease. This September, in recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the ACS is urging men to consult with their healthcare professionals regarding their individual risk factors and the appropriateness of screening for them.
