Giants wide receiver Calvin Austin III will miss the entire season due to an ACL injury
Giants wideout Calvin Austin III will be sidelined for the upcoming season due to a torn right ACL sustained during practice on Tuesday, as reported by ESPN on Wednesday.
New York has signed the 27-year-old veteran to a one-year, $1.5 million contract in the offseason after he spent three seasons with the Steelers, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 draft.
Austin was taken off the field at training camp on Tuesday after his right knee seemed to give way during a one-on-one drill with Deonte Banks.
His teammates offered comfort on the field, and later, Giants co-owner John Mara followed Austin in his own cart, gently tapping the wideout on the helmet and shoulder pads.
Austin recorded 31 receptions for 372 yards and three touchdowns over the course of 14 games, including seven starts, last season. He recorded 84 receptions for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns over the course of 48 career regular-season games, including 16 starts, with the Steelers.
The Giants have several options to replace Austin at slot receiver, including Braxton Berrios or the veteran Odell Beckham Jr.
New York kicks off the regular season on September 13 at home, facing off against Dallas.
