NBA YoungBoy declares that he will never communicate with his mother again, following her involvement of his children in their family conflict
NBA YoungBoy’s heartfelt admission about loving his mother from afar escalated into a contentious public dispute when Sherhonda Gaulden responded, challenging his parenting and prompting the rapper to express years of familial strain.
NBA YoungBoy shared his feelings with Funny Marco about coming to terms with the end of his relationship with his mother, but her public reaction swiftly escalated the situation into a contentious family dispute.
Their feud became public in a profoundly personal manner when NBA YoungBoy revealed on the podcast that he has come to terms with the possibility that he and his mother, Sherhonda Gaulden, may never communicate again. YoungBoy shared that his relationship with his mother played a significant role in the anger he felt. Instead of attributing the issue to a single recent argument, he articulated that he had arrived at a moment of realization where he ceased to anticipate their relationship evolving into what he had envisioned.
My relationship with my mama was once a significant source of my anger. This realization came to me when I reminded myself that there are just some things you can’t change. Certain individuals may not connect with you in the manner you anticipate or hope for.
YoungBoy expressed that he concluded the best choice for his well-being was to love his mother while choosing not to keep in touch with her.
“So I began to love my mom from afar, as if today would be the last time I ever spoke to her, as if we would never communicate again.” I am certain of this decision. Yet, my affection for her runs deep. I care. I hope she knows that too. I want her to be aware of that.
His comments implied a sense of resignation rather than anger. YoungBoy emphasized that his choice was no longer influenced by financial concerns, past traumas, or unresolved grievances.
“It has nothing to do with money, and it’s no longer connected to my past trauma or any anger I was thought to have.” My love for them is immense, as they are my grandmother’s daughters, and my affection for my grandma runs deep.
The mention of his grandmother provides significant context to the YoungBoy family feud. As reported by The FADER, YoungBoy was just eight years old when his father was incarcerated for an extended period, and his mother relocated from their neighborhood, resulting in him being raised by his maternal grandmother. YoungBoy shared with the outlet that his grandmother indulged him, while his mother took on the role of the disciplinarian. His grandmother passed away due to heart failure in 2010.
That history makes YoungBoy’s choice of words particularly insightful. Even while expressing that he anticipates no future relationship with Sherhonda, he linked the love he still holds for her to the woman who played a significant role in his upbringing.
Sherhonda, on the other hand, interpreted his comments in a different way.
In a video shared on her Instagram account, Sherhonda referred to her son by his actual first name, Kentrell, accused him of dishonesty regarding her online, and involved his relationship with his children in the conflict.
“Kentrell, are you speaking to me or to your kids?” Stop messing around with me on this internet. I allowed you to take advantage of me far too many times. I wasn’t there when you made that video with that man, was I? That man wouldn’t be in your kitchen while I was there, would he? Stop messing around with me, man. I don’t care if you never call me. “Just stop lying to me, man.”
Her response also failed to engage with his wider explanation regarding the acceptance that the relationship was beyond repair. She challenged the idea that they had no contact and insisted she was present with him during the Funny Marco interview.
During a subsequent Instagram Live session with Funny Marco, YoungBoy expressed his anger when his mother brought up his children. The rapper maintained that his initial remarks were not an attack on her and wondered why she chose to address his role as a father in her response.
“I didn’t say anything wrong about this foolish person.” All I said was that I would never speak to her again. She came in that situation saying, ‘Oh, about my kids.’ What do my kids have to do with anything, you foolish person? What is wrong with you, man?
He subsequently challenged Sherhonda’s account of being present during the interview before leveling far more grave accusations regarding their relationship in private.
“Then this person is going to say she was right there while we did the interview.” B***h, you have never attended a career day in your life. Many people aren’t even aware that my relationship was with her. I witnessed this disrespectful individual spit in my grandma’s face. This disrespectful person spat in my face before. I have no affection for that person. I don’t care at all.
The livestream intensified further as YoungBoy confronted individuals he claimed were threatening to confront him over his remarks regarding his mother.
Boy, I will take you down. You should definitely ask her. You should definitely ask her, or else there will be serious consequences for you. You should really focus on your affairs.
This is not the first time YoungBoy and Sherhonda’s tension has spilled onto social media. In November 2019, Sherhonda stated that YoungBoy had expelled her from a house he had bought for her following an argument between them. Sherhonda expressed at that moment that she would prefer to leave the home rather than feel as though money was being used as a means of control over her.
The earlier dispute provides the YoungBoy family feud with a more extensive public background, while his Funny Marco interview presented a different perspective on what might lie beneath the conflicts. Prior to the insults, allegations, and social media reactions, YoungBoy expressed feelings of disappointment. He explained that having a familial connection does not ensure the desired relationship or bond with that person.
