Amazon founder Bezos is close to finalizing a deal to acquire a stake in Liverpool, reports indicate
A consortium featuring Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is nearing an agreement to acquire approximately one-third of a stake in Premier League club Liverpool, according to multiple media outlets on Monday.
The reports indicated that the investor group also includes Eduardo Saverin, a co-founder of Facebook.
Sky News reported that the consortium is being led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and a former shareholder in English second-tier club Queens Park Rangers. It is also noted that Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group could announce a deal as early as this week.
The investment would reportedly value the club at around £4.4 billion ($5.9 billion), positioning it among the largest valuations ever reached in a football club deal.
FSG, having acquired Liverpool in 2010, has sought outside investment recently while maintaining control of the club. A deal at the reported valuation would highlight the significant rise in Liverpool’s value during FSG’s 16-year ownership.
Neither Liverpool nor FSG provided an immediate response to the reports.
Liverpool, who secured the Premier League title in 2025, are now embarking on a period of transition following the exit of manager Arne Slot and star forward Mohamed Salah.
Michael Edwards, recognized for his significant contribution to assembling the team that secured Liverpool’s first English league title in 30 years in 2020, departed from his position as chief executive officer of football at Fenway Sports Group in July.
