Iraola starts his tenure at Liverpool with a pre-season victory against Sunderland

Liverpool secured a 4-2 pre-season win against fellow Premier League team Sunderland on Saturday, marking Andoni Iraola’s inaugural match in charge. However, an injury to defender Joe Gomez overshadowed the victory.

Gomez, 29, exited the pitch within the first 10 minutes of the match in Nashville, as goals from Kieran Morrison, Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa, and Lewis Koumas secured the victory for Liverpool.

There are many aspects to address, of course, as it’s the initial day. You could sense the weight in the players’ legs; they have been training hard,” Iraola stated in an interview on the club’s website. “As a result, we were missing a bit of freshness. However, it will provide us with a solid foundation to enhance our efforts. Perhaps the most disappointing news has been Joe’s immediate injury.

We were pleased because we managed to complete all the training without losing any players. Unfortunately for us, we lost Joe right away.

The Spaniard mentioned that center-back Jeremy Jacquet, whose last season was interrupted by a shoulder injury prior to his summer transfer to Liverpool, is expected to participate in their pre-season preparations. “He has been out for many months due to a shoulder injury. “So, I believe we will approach things gently with him,” he added.

He may play the last game of this U.S. tour and get some minutes on the field.

Liverpool will participate in preseason matches against Wrexham, Leeds United, AS Monaco, and Como, leading up to their opening Premier League game away at Newcastle on August 23.
