Trump states that new US strikes on Iran pay tribute to the fallen American troops
Trump stated that the recent military strikes honored the US soldiers who lost their lives in recent attacks.
US President Donald Trump stated that the most recent American strikes on Iran were executed in tribute to US service members who lost their lives in recent attacks, emphasizing that the military operation targeted Iranian positions “very hard.”
On Monday, Trump stated that the attacks were carried out in honor of three American soldiers who recently lost their lives, two in Jordan and one in Iraq.
Earlier, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it had initiated a “new wave” of strikes, signifying the ninth consecutive night of military operations targeting Iran. Explosions have been reported in various regions across the country.
According to CENTCOM, the operation focused on military installations and communications infrastructure to further diminish Iran’s capacity to execute attacks on commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran, on the other hand, stated that it carried out what it referred to as a “surprise attack” on US positions in Syria and also aimed at American aircraft at Jordan’s Aqaba airport.
In another part of the region, Kuwait’s armed forces reported that they intercepted Iranian drones amid the recent escalation.
Reports from Iranian media indicate that explosions were documented in various cities, such as Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Mahshahr, and Bandar Imam Khomeini, following the US strikes.
Iranian state media reported that two oil tankers exploded while trying to navigate the Strait of Hormuz.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) asserted that the vessels were navigating what it termed an unsafe southern route in the strait prior to their explosion and subsequent immobilization. CENTCOM challenged the assertion.
The IRGC cautioned that the Strait of Hormuz would continue to be perilous for the transport of oil, gas, and petrochemical products as long as US military actions persisted, stating that it would initiate what it referred to as a “punitive operation” in retaliation.
The recent escalation comes in the wake of the deaths of three US service members over the weekend.
The US military has confirmed that one soldier was killed in an Iranian attack in northern Iraq on Saturday. Just a day after an attack on a military base in Jordan claimed the lives of two other American troops, this incident took place. Another service member remains missing, while unidentified remains recovered from the scene are undergoing verification.
Despite the continuing exchange of attacks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington remained willing to pursue a diplomatic solution.
Rubio also contended that the international community must determine if Iran should be permitted to control the Strait of Hormuz, alleging that Tehran is utilizing the strategic shipping route as a means of leverage in the conflict.
The renewed fighting comes after a temporary ceasefire reached in mid-June collapsed, with efforts to negotiate a lasting peace making little progress after Trump declared the agreement “over” on July 8.
