Andy Burnham has committed to providing a “circuit breaker for Britain” as he took office as the United Kingdom’s prime minister, following an invitation from King Charles III to establish a government at Buckingham Palace.
Burnham, the fifth UK prime minister in four years, traveled to 10 Downing Street after formally accepting the King’s invitation and delivered his inaugural speech as prime minister, vowing to implement sweeping reforms to address the nation’s economic and social challenges.
“We must improve,” Burnham stated.
“This moment will serve as a turning point for Britain,” he stated, revealing that his government would introduce measures to tackle the cost of living crisis starting on Tuesday.

Burnham took on the leadership of the Labour Party on Friday and is anticipated to unveil a comprehensive 10-year plan for the nation later this year, outlining his long-term vision for the future of Britain.
European leaders have extended their congratulations to Andy Burnham on his appointment as prime minister, taking this moment to advocate for strengthened EU-UK relations.
European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Burnham for the “prosperity of people on both sides of the Channel.”
