Deschamps states that the oppressive atmosphere influenced his choice to resign as coach of France

Departing France coach Didier Deschamps announced his decision to conclude his 14-year tenure in the role due to a “stifling atmosphere” surrounding him, he stated on Saturday, after Les Bleus’ 6-4 defeat to England in the World Cup.

Deschamps announced last year that he would depart when his contract expired following the tournament.

I concluded that it needed to come to an end. The atmosphere surrounding me had become increasingly suffocating. The French national team certainly does not merit that.

Deschamps faced occasional criticism for prioritizing balance, discipline, and efficiency over flair, despite having some of the most talented attacking players in world football. “Since the announcement, the atmosphere has significantly improved for the French team,” he remarked.

Deschamps, who assumed leadership in 2012, will be remembered as the coach who guided France to their second world title in 2018, two decades after captaining them on the field to their first, which was hosted on home soil.
