Beyoncé has just gifted the BeyHive with a delightful birthday surprise!
On Saturday, Beyoncé unveiled “Morning Dew (Donk),” her first new solo track in two years, initiating a 60-day countdown to the 20th anniversary reissue of B’Day, the acclaimed sophomore album she notably released on her 25th birthday on Sept. 4, 2006.
Parkwood Entertainment announces that the new track brings together Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, and The-Dream, who collaborated with Darius Dixon on the songwriting. The upcoming 20th anniversary edition of B’Day will also feature production credits from Beyoncé and Pharrell.
Regular collaborator Cliff Watts directed the release’s lyric video, using archival footage from the B’Day era. Watts, who captured Beyoncé’s iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover around the time of the album’s original release, directed the nostalgic visual companion, according to Parkwood.
Originally released in September 2006, B’Day became Beyoncé’s second consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, debuting at the top of the chart with first-week sales of 541,196 copies in the United States. The project achieved significant international success, securing the No. 1 spot in various markets, including Japan, where it ascended to the top of the International Album Chart in just three days.
