Spain won 3-0. Oyarzabal’s two goals help Spain beat Austria and move on to the round of 16 in the World Cup

Mikel Oyarzabal scored two goals as Spain delivered a commanding performance to defeat Austria in Los Angeles.

On Thursday, Spain showcased an impressive display, decisively defeating Austria 3-0 to advance to the FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

La Roja dominated the match from the very start at the Los Angeles Stadium, showcasing their smooth passing and unyielding pressing, which left Austria finding it difficult to establish themselves in the game. Their dominance was ultimately recognized in the 36th minute when Mikel Oyarzabal scored from close range following impressive play down the left flank, giving Spain a well-deserved lead before halftime.

Austria sought to make an impact after the restart, with Sasa Kalajdzic coming closest to scoring. However, goalkeeper Unai Simon easily handled his header, once again showcasing Spain’s defensive strength.

Spain increased their lead in the 66th minute when Pedro Porro struck his first international goal, putting Luis de la Fuente’s team firmly in command of the match.

Oyarzabal finished his brace late in the match, highlighting a dominant performance from the European champions, who outclassed Austria with their attacking fluidity and mastery of possession throughout the game.

The victory enhances Spain’s remarkable performance in the tournament and propels them into the Round of 16, where they will compete against either Portugal or Croatia for a spot in the quarter-finals. Austria, meanwhile, exits the competition after reaching the knockout stage for the first time in over four decades.
