Protesters Against Illegal Immigration Assemble in Pretoria as Demonstrations Commence

Demonstrators assemble in Pretoria as the protest against illegal immigration intensifies, placing pressure on the government regarding undocumented migrants and border enforcement.

Protesters started assembling at Church Square in Pretoria on Monday morning in anticipation of a scheduled demonstration addressing illegal immigration.

The protest, organized by the civil group March and March, is set to commence at 10am, with the city being one of several locations designated for demonstrations throughout South Africa.

In anticipation of the June 30 deadline informally established by the group, authorities have reportedly designated R600 million for security operations in partnership with private security firms.

A diverse group of law enforcement personnel was positioned throughout the Pretoria central business district, with officers assigned around Church Square and other significant areas in anticipation of the demonstrations.

As protesters gathered at the meeting point, some began to sing and chant, proclaiming their fight for their country and the future of their children.

Demonstrators expressed their demands for stricter enforcement of immigration laws and the expulsion of undocumented immigrants from the country.

One of the protesters, Tumisang Mabula, stated that the government needs to address their demands and implement the current legislation.

“I’m here to join March and March because it is my duty as a South African to come and support my fellow citizens who are here to hold the South African government accountable.” We do not harbor xenophobic sentiments. We do not harbor hatred towards Africans.

Mabula stated that the group would persist with its campaign until the government addresses its demands.
