Louis Farrakhan’s wife Khadijah Farrakhan dies at age 90; She was married to the Nation of Islam leader for decades

Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, who was 90 years old, has died. She was married to Minister Louis Farrakhan and was known as the First Lady of the Nation of Islam.

Mother Khadijah had “returned to Allah,” the Nation of Islam said in a statement on Saturday whenSaturday when they reported her death. The group said in a statement that she was a “loving wife, mother, and a faithful devoted follower of thethe Honorable Elijah Muhammad” and that she “will forever be cherished and remembered.”

The funeral plans have not been made public yet. “Funeral (Janazah) services will be sent as soon as it’s available,” the group said. The cause of death has also not been made public.

With Mother Khadijah’s death, a spiritual and love story that lasted decades comes to an end. She got married to Louis Farrakhan in 1953, and they were together for 72 years. They became Muslims two years after their wedding. Farrakhan learned about the teachings of the Nation of Islam while he was still pursuing music.

As Farrakhan rose through the ranks of the Nation of Islam, Mother Khadijah became an important part of both his private and public life. She was born Betsy Ross. In the early 1980s, when Farrakhan became one of the Nation of Islam’s most well-known leaders, she stood next to him as the group’s first lady.

People said that Mother Khadijah had a lot of quiet, behind-the-scenes impact, but she was also there for important Black cultural and political events. She spoke at the Million Woman March in Philadelphia in 1997. It was a historic event for Black women that focused on unity, healing, family, and freedom. Farrakhan planned the Million Man March in Washington, D.C., two years before this event.

Two people named Louis and Khadijah Farrakhan had nine children together. Eight of them are still alive, but their son Louis Farrakhan Jr. died in 2018.
