Breaking: Arsenal wins the Premier League for the first time in 22 years
Arsenal clinches the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, securing victory with a game remaining after Manchester City was unable to overcome Bournemouth.
Arsenal has been named Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years following Manchester City’s inability to secure a victory against Bournemouth on Tuesday.
Champions in six of the last eight seasons, Man City had to secure a victory to reduce the gap to Arsenal to just two points, bringing the title race to a thrilling conclusion on the final day of the season this Sunday.
However, a goal from Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi in the 39th minute put City at a disadvantage, and Erling Haaland’s equalizer in stoppage time arrived too late for Pep Guardiola’s side to secure the victory they required.
Arsenal’s final game of the campaign at Crystal Palace on Sunday will now be a purely festive occasion.
Arsenal has secured their 14th English title, placing them third in the all-time rankings, trailing only Liverpool and Manchester United, who each have 20 titles. This victory marks their first since the 2003-04 season, when the “Invincibles” achieved an unbeaten run under Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal have finished as runners-up in the league for the last three seasons.
Mikel Arteta’s team has reached the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30, aiming to become European champions for the first time and conclude what would be the club’s greatest ever season.
