Three Killed in Attack by Teen Gunmen at San Diego Mosque

Two teenage suspects opened fire at a mosque in San Diego, resulting in the deaths of three individuals before they succumbed to self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

According to police, three individuals lost their lives when two teenage gunmen opened fire outside a mosque in San Diego before turning the weapons on themselves.

Officials reported that the incident occurred on Monday morning at the Islamic Center of San Diego, where congregants and children were present on the premises.

Authorities discovered the deceased individuals, aged 17 and 18, inside a vehicle several blocks away after they fled the scene.

Authorities reported that one of the individuals affected was a security guard at the mosque, who played a crucial role in averting additional injuries during the shooting.

San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl characterized the guard’s actions as “heroic,” noting that he probably saved lives.

Authorities indicated that the shooting is being classified as a potential hate crime, as the assailants specifically targeted a mosque, and one of the suspects allegedly left behind writings that included hate speech.

Authorities disclosed that the mother of a suspect reached out to law enforcement a few hours prior, after her son departed from home with firearms and a vehicle, accompanied by another teenager clad in camouflage.

Officers were actively searching for the duo when gunfire broke out outside the mosque.

Officials reported that the suspects discharged their weapon at a landscaper from their vehicle shortly after the mosque attack; however, the worker managed to escape without injury.

Students at the mosque’s school were guided to safety while nearby schools went into lockdown.

Imam Taha Hassane denounced the attack, asserting that a place of worship “is not a battlefield.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that the state would not accept violence aimed at religious communities.
