Lammy states that Starmer will not establish a timeline for exiting amid the Labour uprising

David Lammy states that Keir Starmer continues to hold his position despite increasing pressure from Labour following disappointing local election outcomes.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy stated that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will not provide a timetable for his departure from office, despite increasing pressure from within the Labour Party.

Starmer is encountering increasing pressure to resign following Labour’s significant defeats in the local elections on May 7. Almost 25% of Labour lawmakers are currently calling for his resignation, as competitors are candidly preparing for a potential leadership challenge.

“There will be no timetable for departure,” Lammy informed Sky News, noting that he had conversed with the prime minister twice on Sunday.

The turmoil within Labour has caused concern among investors, leading to an increase in government borrowing costs as uncertainty surrounding Starmer’s future intensifies.

Lawmaker Wes Streeting, who stepped down as health minister last week, announced on Saturday that he would participate in any formal leadership contest.

Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, is pursuing a parliamentary seat that may enable him to initiate a challenge.

Starmer has consistently affirmed his commitment to combat any leadership challenge directed at him.

According to the rules of the Labour Party, a leadership contest is initiated when a lawmaker obtains 81 nominations, which represents 20% of the Labour members of parliament.
