Queen Latifah has just taken a seat in a red chair on “The Voice,” and NBC may have discovered its next ratings surge
The rapper, actor, and television veteran teams up with Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and Riley Green for a landmark season filled with nostalgic moments from the franchise.
Queen Latifah is taking on another role in her impressive career, joining NBC’s “The Voice” as the latest coach. The network has announced that the Grammy-winning entertainer will be joining Season 30 of the beloved singing competition when it returns this fall, alongside Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and country star Riley Green.
For NBC, this decision seems to embody a significant and meaningful moment in television history rather than merely a gimmick. Queen Latifah has dedicated decades to crafting an incredibly versatile career in entertainment, transitioning from hip-hop success to sitcoms, daytime television, film, and prestigious drama, all while maintaining her cultural significance throughout the journey. She is now taking her place in one of television’s most iconic red chairs as “The Voice” marks a significant milestone season.
The series debuted in 2011 and swiftly emerged as one of NBC’s most successful unscripted programs, attributed to its unique celebrity coach format and a dynamic roster of music industry figures. Throughout the years, artists such as Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, Usher, Christina Aguilera, and John Legend have contributed to transforming the franchise into a consistent ratings success. Shelton stayed with the show for 23 seasons before leaving in 2023, establishing himself as the longest-running coach in the franchise’s history.
Queen Latifah’s television background positions her as one of the most seasoned additions the show has brought on in recent years. In addition to her role in “Living Single” and later hosting “The Queen Latifah Show,” she received critical acclaim for her performance in HBO’s “Bessie” before taking the lead in CBS’s action drama The Equalizer. She has made guest appearances as a judge on competition shows such as “America’s Got Talent.”
Her arrival comes after recent remarks she made regarding the future of the entertainment industry at the 2025 Red Sea International Film Festival. “The technology is on its way, and it’s here to stay,” she stated. “We must determine how to improve it.”
Nonetheless, the icon emphasized her belief that human creativity is irreplaceable. “Our experience and wisdom are irreplaceable,” she added.
NBC has announced that Season 30 will feature appearances from former coaches and mentors associated with the franchise, adding an extra layer of nostalgia to the anniversary season.
