Iran is strengthening its control over the Strait of Hormuz, while Trump asserts that the US can resolve the conflict independently of China
Trump asserts that America can resolve the Iran war without assistance from China as tensions rise in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington did not require China’s assistance to resolve the conflict with Iran, amid escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Before a planned summit in Beijing, Trump stated that the United States would succeed in the conflict “one way or the other,” even amid increasing global apprehension regarding interruptions to oil supplies.
“I believe we can manage the situation with Iran on our own.” “We will achieve victory, whether through peaceful means or otherwise,” he stated to the reporters.
His remarks emerged as expectations for a wider peace agreement seemed to diminish over a month following the implementation of a delicate ceasefire between the two parties.
Reports indicate that Iran has enhanced its control over the Strait of Hormuz by establishing new energy shipping arrangements with Iraq and Pakistan, as per sources familiar with the situation.
The strategic waterway serves as one of the globe’s most crucial oil transit routes, transporting approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies.
Officials from the US indicated that last month, Washington and Beijing reached an agreement stating that no nation should impose tolls or restrictions on maritime traffic in the region.
Trump is anticipated to address the conflict with Chinese President Xi Jinping in meetings later this week, as Washington hopes that Beijing might persuade Tehran to engage in negotiations to conclude the war.
The United States has insisted that Iran discontinue its nuclear program and lift restrictions in the strait, whereas Tehran has requested reparations for war damages and a cessation of American military pressure in the area.
As the economic repercussions of the conflict intensified, Trump rejected claims that increasing fuel prices and inflation were affecting his stance.
“The sole concern, when discussing Iran, is that they must not possess a nuclear weapon,” he stated prior to leaving the White House.
Oil prices have seen a continued increase due to concerns regarding potential supply disruptions, with Brent crude surpassing $107 a barrel.
The Pentagon reported that the cost of the conflict has risen to $29 billion, and recent opinion polls indicated a growing sense of public unease in the United States as November’s midterm elections approach.
