China’s marriages have fallen to a ten-year low, intensifying demographic worries
Marriage registrations in China experienced a decline of 6.2% in the first quarter compared to the previous year, reaching approximately half of the levels seen in 2017, according to official data. This trend underscores the demographic challenges that a country faces, where marriage closely correlates with childbearing.
According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, China saw 1.697 million marriage registrations in the quarter, as reported on Saturday.
The figures represent a recent indication of the growing demographic challenges facing China.
