Trump states that the US-Iran ceasefire remains effective following the incident in the Strait of Hormuz

Trump asserts that the US-Iran ceasefire is still in effect, even in light of recent exchanges of fire involving warships in the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump asserts that a ceasefire between the United States and Iran is still in effect, even in light of a recent exchange of fire involving US naval destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US has accused Iran of launching missiles, drones, and small boats at three American warships in what it termed an “unprovoked attack.” In response, Iran claimed that the US targeted an Iranian oil tanker and another vessel approaching the strategic waterway.

Trump, in a response on Truth Social, stated that Iran “trifled with us today.”

Iran’s highest military leadership asserted that US “aerial attacks” targeted coastal regions such as Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island. Iranian forces reportedly retaliated by targeting US military vessels, causing “significant damage,” and accused Washington of breaching the ceasefire.

US Central Command reported that Iranian forces fired “multiple missiles, drones, and small boats” at US Navy guided-missile destroyers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Centcom stated that it had “neutralized incoming threats and focused on Iranian military installations accountable for assaults on US forces, encompassing missile and drone launch sites; command and control centers; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance hubs.”

“Centcom does not seek escalation but is prepared and positioned to safeguard American forces,” the statement indicated.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump remarked that the US had obliterated several small boats that “dropped ever so beautifully down to the ocean, very much like a butterfly dropping to its grave!”

He added that significant harm was inflicted upon the Iranian attackers.

The US president issued a warning to Iran regarding the current peace negotiations.

“Just as we defeated them again today, we will defeat them even more decisively and forcefully in the future if they don’t get their deal signed quickly!” Trump wrote.

A source from Israel informed the BBC that there was “no Israeli involvement” in the recent attacks.

The most recent tensions arise following a statement from Iran’s foreign ministry, indicating that it is contemplating a US proposal designed to bring an end to the conflict.

American news organization Axios reported that the White House was optimistic about nearing a 14-point memorandum of understanding with Iran, which could establish a framework for comprehensive nuclear negotiations.

A spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry stated that Tehran is currently evaluating the proposal and will convey its response via Pakistani mediators.

Pakistan’s foreign minister stated that his country was “working to transform this ceasefire into a lasting conclusion to this war.”

Nonetheless, Iranian parliament member Ebrahim Rezaei characterized the proposed agreement as a “wish list.”

In a post on X, Rezaei stated that Iran “has its finger on the trigger,” cautioning that the nation would “deliver a harsh and regret-inducing response” if the US did not “surrender and grant necessary conditions.”

Washington and Tehran have both issued warnings of additional military action should negotiations break down.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump cautioned that if Iran failed to reach an agreement, “the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”

Trump has consistently asserted that Iran had committed to never seeking a nuclear weapon, though Tehran has not validated this assertion.
